FIRST INNING
With two outs, Ryan Zimmerman absolutely crushes one to dead center for his 12th homer. 1-0 Nationals
Upton reaches on an error by first baseman Nick Johnson, then he steals second. Carl Crawford walks. Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena both strikeout, as does Ben Zobrist.
SECOND INNING
A two-out hit is for naught as Sonnanstine retires the side. Pat Burrell singles up the middle to lead off. Michel Hernandez ends the inning by grounding into a double play. 1-0 Nats
THIRD INNING
Bunt hit by Anderson Hernandez to lead off. Christian Guzman singles to right. Johnson walks to load the bases. Fielder’s choice scores a run, as Reid Brignac bobbled the ball at short. Adam Dunn strikes out swinging for the second out. Elijah Dukes flies out to end the threat. Brignac leads off with a double down the line in left, and then advances to third on BJ Upton’s sac bunt. Longo strikes out again. 1-0 Nats
FOURTH INNING
Sonny is working quickly as usual. Pena leads off and crushes one to right almost off the scoreboard. It is Pena’s 20th homer of the season. Zorilla strikes out. Nothing else for the Rays, and they now trail by one.
2-1 Nats
FIFTH INNING
Sonny gets a 1-2-3 inning. Brignac leads off with a single. After a fielder’s choice, Upton steals his 22nd base. He then gets picked off of second.
SIXTH INNING
After two singles, Zorilla hits his 13th homer (a career high) on the first pitch. Burrell walks, and then Gabe Gross follows with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season. Longo hits a two-run double off the top of the wall in left-center. The Rays put up seven in the inning. 8-2 Rays
SEVENTH INNING
Sonny gets the Nats 1-2-3 to start the seventh. That rendition by Black Zeppa was one of the most amazing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” performances ever, and I don’t mean that in a good way. The Rays go quietly in the seventh.
EIGHTH INNING
Two errors so far in the inning by the Rays (Gross-throwing, Longoria- fielding) have led to a run. Randy Choate comes in to end the inning. 8-3 Rays The announced attendance wasn’t a sellout, so Ludacris doesn’t bring as many fans as one might think.
NINTH INNING
Jason Isringhausen is in to finish the game for the Rays. Izzy leaves with two outs and two strikes after throwing a pitch way outside. He grimaced in pain as he walked off the mound. Lance Cormier threw one pitch to end the game.
